Volunteer Position Descriptions
As you prepare to volunteer on Christmas Day, we recommend reading the Position Descriptions below to help you choose a role that suits your strengths and experience. This will help you feel confident in your responsibilities, and show you how all roles come together to create a joyful, seamless event filled with holiday spirit.
Supervisors please note, you will receive additional information, training and an on-site meeting in the week leading up to the event (time to be confirmed).
Volunteer Roles
To help you choose which role you might be interested in and to understand the run-down of each volunteer position, please read the Position Descriptions below.
There’s something for everyone, with roles such as face painter, food and beverage crew, steward, table host, to games team, set-up team, gift and care pack distributors and supervisor roles.
More detailed information will be provided at the various induction sessions pre-event, once you’ve been allocated your role(s).

Environmental Elf
A lover of people and the outdoors and conscientiously contributing from behind the scenes, the Environmental Elves have an essential role of maintaining a neat, tidy, rubbish and hazard free environment, enabling all guests and volunteers to enjoy themselves safely Following COVID 19 safe event plans and measures is crucial to the safe delivery of the event.

Face Painting Team
You love to express your creativity with face paint and to share this with children. You enjoy bringing faces to life with a flair for painting tigers, unicorns and Spiderman! There’s no stopping you as you create smiles on the children’s dials with colour, glitter and fun! You find the energy of children infectious and have just as much fun as they do!

Feedback Collection Supervisor
You’re a lover of data collection, and understand it helps the Christmas Lunch in the Park Team to continue to deliver a magical and supportive event. This data will assist in the future development of the event to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our guests, volunteers and learn some basic attendee information, with a soft and compassionate approach. It’s Christmas Day after all! You will lead your small team in ensuring the various data collection activities are met, allocating your team and rounding up the various surveys and paperwork at as the day draws to a close.

You’re a lover of data collection, and understand it help the Christmas Lunch in the Park Team to continue to deliver a magical and supportive event. This data will assist in the future development of the event to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our guests, volunteers and learn some basic attendee information, with a soft and compassionate approach. It’s Christmas Day after all! You will happily gather the information required, working together with your team mates to get the job done.

SUPER indeed! Experienced in events management or hospitality, you’re an operationally fit “smooth operator”. As one of several supervisors overseeing a designated zone, you will apply your relevant expertise to ensure a smooth and collaborative operation for all. The calm to the proverbial storm!

Food & Beverage Crew
You prefer making people’s day from behind the scenes, working in a tight knit team to ensure all mouths are fed. In the Food & Beverage Crew, you’ll be in a dynamic environment as you unload, sort and distribute Christmas Lunch. Without you, the show could not go on.

Food & Beverage Supervisor
As one of the few Food & Beverage supervisors, you’ll be the calm in the proverbial storm as you supportively steer your team through the successful delivery of the three course meal. You’ll oversee as they unload, sort and distribute all Christmas lunch packages. Your attention to detail, love of people and relevant experience will guarantee success for all!

Games Team
The sporty, “up and at ‘em” Games Team are energetic, enthusiastic kids at heart, who'll work to ensure the utmost pleasure of our most special guests. Christmas is a day for the kids after all. Entertainment includes a range of outdoor sports, such as cricket and football, with other games and activities on offer throughout the day.

Experienced working with children yourself, the Games Team Supervisor is responsible for creating a safe and fun environment as our youngest guests enjoy the activities provided by your team.

Haircut/ Barber/ Braider Team
You’re all about the feel-good factor! Helping people to feel good again with a haircut, a buzz cut or a funky braid. You’ll be helping in the ‘Wellness Zone’ where there will also be showers, laundry, donated clothing and other essential services to help bring dignity back to our guests. There’s nothing like getting spruced up for the occasion and that all-rejuvenating feeling of a fresh shower, new threads and a sleek hair-do!

Guest Transport Team
You’re a beam of sunshine! A lover of people, diversity and crowds, with a friendly and agreeable nature. You’re superbly placed for greeting guests as they arrive ensuring everyone feels welcome and at ease, then directing them in to the care of a friendly Steward. This team assists with bus runs, shuttle directions from the train station, and parking directions.

Guest Transport Supervisor
The logistics-focused Supervisor is all about getting guests to & from the event happily & on time. Being a people person, managing the Guest Transport Team, you will be comfortable directing your team and engaging with guests. You keep the bus running smoothly — sticking to its schedule and route — while making sure your team handles train station pick-ups and bus stop logistics efficiently. Strong coordination will be key to your success.

Experienced in events, hospitality or customer service leadership, you’re a multi-skilling masterpiece with a warm, welcoming and supportive nature. You’ll oversee a Guest Welcome Team, who’ll be ensuring safe entry of all guests, passing them on to the care of the Stewards.

As one of a group of hosts designated to a specified picnic area, your role is to share the Christmas spirit by welcoming your picnic guests and facilitating light and entertaining discussion as you enjoy Christmas lunch together. With your further encouragement post-lunch, your guests will continue to enjoy the ongoing festivities and support services available to them!

Safety Supervisor
Anything process and safety is your game! Experienced in OHS or Risk Management, you have a keen eye for detail and love an operation that is safe and ticks the compliance boxes. You are the checking eyes of the event, whilst the Event Manager is steering the ship. You will both monitor implementation of safe practices around the site, and coordinate a team of keen and eager Environmental “Elves” who keep the scene clean You are an important cog in the event wheel!

Santa's Elves – Gift & Care Pack Distribution Supervisor
Joy to the world and the face of Christmas! Santa’s Elf says it all. Your role is to lead your team in creating a joyful atmosphere for the children as they eagerly await Santa’s arrival — and ensuring every child receives their Christmas gift with excitement and delight. You will work tirelessly supporting your fellow volunteer crew, whilst ensuring all adults (14 years old plus) receive their Care Pack. You’ve got this!

Steward
You're a go-getter with a heart for people and a zest for life. As a Steward, you’ll offer guests the warmest of welcomes as you escort them to their tables to meet their respective Table Host. From there, you continue to meet the needs of patrons seated at the tables assigned to your care, as you jovially ferry their food and drinks.

You're a people person! As the host of a table of up to 8 guests, your role is to warmly welcome everyone, spread Christmas cheer, and spark lighthearted conversation as you share in a joyful Christmas lunch together. After lunch, encourage your guests to continue to enjoy the ongoing festivities and support services available to them!

Volunteer Concierge Team
You’re administration royalty! Cool under pressure and with the warmest of welcomes, you enjoy dotting every ‘i’ and crossing every ‘t’. The Volunteer Concierge Team are responsible for registering more than 300 wonderful volunteers upon their arrival and directing them to their relevant supervisor. Thanks to you, each zone is swiftly and appropriately crewed and the event kicks off without a hitch.

SUPER indeed! Experienced in events and/or office management, you’re multi-skilled and operationally fit, with a friendly, “cool as a cucumber” exterior. Overseeing the Volunteer Concierge Team, your collective mission is to register more than 300 wonderful volunteers upon their arrival, and directing them to their relevant supervisor, while offering administrative support throughout the day.

Water Station Crew will assist guests by filling their water bottles for them at the drinking water stations.
